By Adnews Staff
Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston put 35 new ProLinea and Deskpro desktop computers on the North American market this week. Thirty-three of the machines contain the 150 or 166 megahertz Intel Pentium processor. Two are powered by the 180 or 200 megahertz Pentium Pro. Compaq has also introduced the LS-120 drive that works with diskettes that have 80 times the storage capacity of regular 1.44 megabyte floppies. The LS-120 also reads and writes to a disk at five times the speed of regular drives. It comes as a standard feature with two Deskpro models and is an option for the other machines. Canadian print advertising for the new computers will begin in the second quarter. It will be done by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. Compaq cut prices early last month by up to 25% on all of its lines in Canada.
