ADVERTISING STANDARDS CANADA RULES ON GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO AD
By Adnews Staff
Advertising Standards Canada has ruled that the Government of Ontario violated the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards with an ad about the government's spending of $250 million on special education. A number of parents and Ontario Liberal education critic Gerard Kennedy complained that $50 million of the money was not being distributed to school boards, according to a report in The Toronto Star. According to ASC, the ad violated the "accuracy and clarity" section of the advertising standards code. The ad has finished its run and is no longer on the air. Education Minister Elizabeth Witmer defended the ad and said the government will appeal the ruling.
