BC GAS ADVERTISES NEW NAME

Vancouver-based energy and utility services company BC Gas will introduce customers to its new name with an advertising campaign from Wasserman & Partners Advertising. The new name, Terasen, was approved at the company's annual general meeting on Friday. The name is a combination of "Terra," the Latin word for earth, and the word "send." The new logo consists of three circles. Both were created by Ove Design. The new corporate identity will be displayed in television, print and online advertising that will break on May 5. The creative describes humorous reasons for the name change. The print ads present a long list of names the company would have had to put on uniforms and vehicles to communicate the names, services and areas of operation of BC Gas. The TV commercial depicts a receptionist answering the phone with a long explanation of what BC Gas does. A voiceover says, "Now you know why BC Gas changed its name to Terasen." The receptionist answers another call with, "Hello, Terasen, how may I help you." The creative also includes a long Web site address that directs users to a page with the new name and logo. Visitors to the page can also request a Terasen mug. The advertising will run until mid-August. The print ads are running in newspapers and trade publications in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The TV ad and accompanying 10-second billboards are running in BC only.
