ULTRAMAR SUPPORTS SPECIAL OFFERS
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based gasoline retailer Ultramar is promoting various special offers in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes with radio advertising and coupon mailings. The effort is intended to convey the message that Ultramar offers more than good gas prices. In Quebec, radio advertising continues to feature comic Michel Barrette. A series of six 30-second and two 15-second French-language ads have been created to correspond with current promotions. Each ad opens with the line "J'en ai une bonne à te conter..." (Wait till you hear this one). In the Maritimes a series of eight radio spots continue with a concept introduced last year in which different characters call Ultramar's head office to complain about the company's generosity. The characters in this year's campaign are Robin Hood, a police chief, a grandfather and a paperboy. In Ontario, "Reveal-A-Deal" coupons have been distributed to customers who live near Ultramar service stations. Between March 17 and May 11, recipients can use the coupons for gas discounts and free coffee. Customers can also enter a draw for $1,500 in heating oil and discounts on air-conditioning systems. In-store materials will also be used to support each promotion. Advertising for Ultramar is done by Palm Publicité Marketing of Montreal.
