TORSTAR BUYS OUT TORONTO.COM

Toronto-based Torstar has become the sole owner of the toronto.com Web site, purchasing the 50% interest in the operation owned by Internet service provider Sympatico. Torstar already owned the other half of the online guide to the city. The financial details of the purchase are not known. "Toronto.com fits perfectly with our strategy of being the leading media company in Toronto and southern Ontario," said Robert Prichard, president and CEO of Torstar. The Web site contains information on approximately 200,000 Toronto businesses, as well as information about services, community organizations and events.
