WAL-MART PICKS FIRST THREE SAM'S CLUB LOCATIONS

The first three Canadian Sam's Club stores will be located in the Ontario cities of Vaughan, Pickering and London, according to Wal-Mart Canada of Mississauga. The retailer has planned to bring its membership warehouse club format to Canada since last fall. The Sam's Club name is a reference to Wal-mart founder Sam Walton. The chain has outlets in Brazil, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the U.S. The first three Canadian stores will be free-standing locations 129,000 square feet in size. The Vaughan store will be at Highway 7 and Edgeley Boulevard. The Pickering store will be at Brock Road and Pickering Parkway. Both will open this fall. The London store will be located at Fanshawe Park Road and Hyde Park Road. Its construction and opening have not yet scheduled. Wal-mart plans to open four to six stores in Ontario this year. Wal-mart opened its first retail store in Canada in 1994. English-language advertising for Wal-mart is done by Toronto-based Publicis Canada. French-language advertising is handled by Allard Johnson Communications of Montreal. The marketing plans for Sam's Club are not yet settled, according to the company.
