OSPREY BUYS CANWEST COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS

Osprey Media Group of Markham, ON is to buy CanWest Global's portfolio of small market daily and weekly newspapers in southern Ontario. The purchase price is $193.5 million. The sale is expected to close by mid-February. Osprey has already received the regulatory approvals needed to complete the sale. The properties being sold include four daily newspapers, 21 weekly newspapers and 11 other publications. Osprey's own publications include The Kingston Whig-Standard, Peterborough Examiner and Sault Star.
