INSURANCE FOR HOME BUSINESSES
By Adnews Staff
Zurich Canada is introducing a new insurance policy next week in Ontario for people who run businesses out of their homes. The policy will roll out nationally during 1996 and should be across Canada by next year. Print advertising for the policy will begin next week. It was created by DDB Needham Worldwide of Toronto. Called @homebusiness, the policy insures computers, fax machines, phones, photocopiers, business software and other equipment. The coverage travels with equipment taken on the road. It also covers liability for bodily injury, property damage, tenants' legal liability, advertising liability and personal injury. Other options include business record insurance, covering the cost of restoring or recovering damaged, stolen or destroyed business records. Money and securities insurance covers theft, counterfeiting, fraud and forgery of cheques, securities and money orders. It also insures against financial loss from unauthorized use of credit cards, debit cards and ATM cards. If something happens to the home that makes it unfit to conduct business in, another option will cover the advertising of a new temporary location, the rental of office space, the use of business equipment and transportation to and from the new location. It also includes the rental of substitute business equipment.
