SPRINT REVAMPS SAVINGS PLAN

Sprint Canada of Toronto says it is making it cheaper for Canadians to call each other this year while taking a poke at the competition. This week the company added features to the long distance savings plan it calls The Most. Under the old plan, customers received a 50% discount each month on numbers they spent the most on in three geographic areas - one number in Canada, one in the U.S. and one overseas. Under the new plan customers who call mostly in Canada will get a 50% discount to the two numbers they spend the most on, plus one number in the U.S. For example, if a customer spends more on two Canadian numbers than on one number overseas, he or she will get 50% off charges for the two Canadian numbers but no special discount for overseas. Sprint is also pledging not to be undersold by the competition. It says that if a customer's local phone company can show that monthly savings with the local firm's plan would have been higher, Sprint will refund the customer double the difference in savings. However, this does not include special or promotional offerings from the local company. Sprint began airing TV advertising and sending out free standing inserts this week to promote the new savings offers, after running a week of teasers commercials. Direct mail to current customers went out with their January statements. Grey Advertising's Toronto office created ads for English Canada. Taxi Advertising & Design in Montreal did Quebec advertising.
