COCA-COLA FOCUSES ON HOCKEY MOMENTS IN NEW OLYMPIC SPOT

Coca-Cola Ltd. has begun a new television advertising campaign tied to the upcoming 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Created by MacLaren McCann of Toronto, the campaign includes 30- and 60-second versions of a new commercial running nationally on major networks. The spot opens with a young boy stick-handling an empty Coca-Cola can down a street into a hockey net. He yells, "He shoots. He scores." This is followed by a series of scenes tied together by the phrase, including footage from Canada's hockey history and shots of a women's hockey game at which the announcement "She shoots. She scores" is heard. It continues with various Canadians reciting the line and concludes with the copy, "If we time it right they'll be able to hear us in Salt Lake City." The advertising will run through the Olympic Winter Games. Coca-Cola, an official sponsor of the games, will also run an in-case promotion involving eight collectible coins that can be framed as a keepsake from the Salt Lake City Games.
