ALLIANCE ATLANTIS BUYS CTV'S INTEREST IN HISTORY TELEVISION

Toronto-based Alliance Atlantis is paying $20 million for CTV's 12% interest in specialty channel History Television. The deal is expected to close on Jan. 7. Alliance Atlantis and CTV launched the network in the fall of 1997. "Full ownership of History Television maximizes our strategic flexibility with this asset," said Michael MacMillan, chairman and CEO of Alliance Atlantis. History Television is one of 18 specialty channels in which Alliance Atlantis has an ownership interest. The others are Showcase, Life Network, HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada, Series+, Historia, Showcase Action, Showcase Diva, The Independent Film Channel Canada, Discovery Health Channel Canada, National Geographic Channel, BBC Canada, BBC Kids, Scream, The Score, PrideVision TV and One: the Body, Mind and Spirit Channel.
