CRTC APPROVES FOUR NEW RADIO STATIONS IN OTTAWA

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has granted licenses to four new Ottawa radio stations including a multicultural station, an aboriginal station, a dance station and a classical music station. Newcap Inc.'s "The Planet" will be an English-language dance station located at 89.9 FM. Aboriginal Voices Radio's not-for-profit aboriginal station will operate at 95.7 FM, broadcasting in English and various aboriginal languages. Radio 1540 will offer programming to 37 cultural groups at 97.9 FM. Radio Nord's French-language classical music station is set to begin operations once its receives approval for an alternate frequency to the one it originally applied for.
