By Adnews Staff
Hollinger Inc. is selling its remaining 50% interest in the National Post to Winnipeg-based CanWest Global Communications Corporation. Included in the sale are Saturday Night magazine, National Post Business magazine, NP Online and Infomart. Hollinger founded the national newspaper in October 1998. Last year the company sold 50% of the publication to CanWest in a $3.5 billion deal in which CanWest also acquired 100% of Hollinger's newspaper chain, its Internet properties, its magazines and most of its community publishing operations. Conrad Black will leave his role of publisher of the National Post on September 1. Associate publisher Gordon Fisher will assume the job of acting publisher. The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals and will close on March 31, 2002. Financial details are not known.
