PAPER COMPANIES MERGER OK'D
By Adnews Staff
Stockholders approved U.S.-based Kimberly-Clark Corp.'s $6.8-billion(US) takeover of Scott Paper this week. In addition, the two companies have settled antitrust objections by agreeing to sell the Scotties facial tissue business and one or two tissue mills. The combined company will also sell off three brands of wipes and the plant where they are produced. The wipes are Baby Fresh, Wash-a-Bye Baby and Kid Fresh. In Canada advertising for Scott is done by J. Walter Thompson and Bozell Palmer Bonner. Kimberly-Clark's advertising comes out of the U.S. The European Commission also gave the companies the go-ahead, but said Scott's business must be kept separate in western Europe pending the commission's final decision. The merger is still under review in Canada.
