KFC SEARCHES FOR TWISTED DJ, BREAKS NEW CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
To promote its Twisted chicken wrap sandwich, KFC has undertaken a "KFC Twister Most Twisted DJ in Toronto" contest. The three-week consumer promotion runs until July 10. Greater Toronto Area residents are asked to choose the DJ or radio team whose, "off-the-wall antics, bizarre sense of humour and zany banter keep them tuning in day after day," according to the company. Ballots will be available in The Toronto Sun on June 27 and July 3 as well as in participating KFC stores. Nominees include: Ted Woloshyn of CFRB-AM 1010, Dean Blundell, Sandra Plagakis and Jason Barr of EDGE 102, Kenny Robinson and Jemini of Flow 93.5, Humble and Fred of MOJO Radio, Pat Marsden and Don Landry of The FAN 590 and Matt Wreggitt of Z103. The winning DJ will get an exclusive radio interview and Twisted Twister lunch with Survivor II's Rodger "Kentucky Joe" Bingham. Ten listeners will also be invited. Ten additional voters will be chosen at random to have a separate lunch with Bingham. KFC will also hold a Twister sample day on July 4. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. consumers can sample the Twister sandwich wrap at four locations in the GTA. Ballots for the contest will also be available. Public relations are being handled by Advance Planning/MS&L of Toronto.
Also, the chain recently broke a new advertising campaign which it returns to the "Finger Lickin' Good" tagline. A series of four television commercials focus on the taste and smell of KFC's menu items. The first spot, "Baby," which began running earlier this month, shows a toddler licking his fingers and toes. Television advertising, which will run until the end of September, is being supported with radio and print ads. Advertising for KFC is done by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
