HOCKEY ASSOCIATION, GOODYEAR PLAN ZAMBONI FUNDRAISER

The Canadian Hockey Association is planning a winter 2001/2002 national Zamboni promotion. The fundraising initiative is designed to encourage support for Canada's men's and women's national hockey teams for the upcoming hockey season. Title sponsor for the promotion is Toronto-based Goodyear Canada. The "Goodyear Drive for Gold" tour will visit 69 cities across Canada between September 27 and early February 2002. The tour will consist of a motorcade of two 57' tractor-trailers. One truck will serve as a walk-through CHA hockey exhibit. The second will contain a regulation Zamboni ice-resurfacer. A Web site will be created later this summer to allow Canadians to sign up for a leg of the Tour. For a donation of $20.02, Canadians will be able to drive the Zamboni for one kilometer through their city streets. A second fundraising component will be run in conjunction with Ebay.ca in which selected Platinum Legs of the tour will be available by auction. Goodyear is supporting the effort with public relations from Environics Communications and advertising from Due North Communications, both of Toronto. Additional support will include special events and promotions to start in the fall. Primary sponsors include Canada Post, Tensor, AMJ Campbell Van Lines and Sportchek. Brantford, Ontario, home of Zamboni Canada, and Imperial Oil's Esso are also supporting the tour. The CHA is the governing body for amateur hockey in Canada.
