AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS LAND IN CANADA

American Eagle Outfitters, a Pittsburgh, PA-based retailer, opens its first store north of the border today. Located in Hamilton, ON at the Limeridge Mall, the store is the first of 46 scheduled to open in major shopping centres across Canada by the fall. This is the chain's first move outside the U.S. The retailer, which sells its own brand of clothing for 16- to 34-year-olds, announced last November that it would convert a number of Bramear stores to American Eagle Outfitters stores when it acquired Bramear, Thrifty's and National Logistics Services from Dylex Ltd. for $115 million. Public relations for American Eagle Outfitters, Canada, based in Mississauga, ON, are handled by Hill and Knowlton Canada of Toronto. Advertising is handled in-house.
