MARITIME BEER COMPANY TO BREW OLD MILWAUKEE

The Maritime Beer Company, a division of Sleeman Breweries, has begun brewing Old Milwaukee beer north of the border. Sleeman acquired the Old Milwaukee brand as part of the Stroh portfolio in Canada in the fall of 1999. Until now the brand has been brewed in the U.S. for the Maritime provinces and distributed in cans. The Old Milwaukee recipe has also been adjusted slightly to "better meet the Canadian beer drinkers needs by delivering richer taste and 5% alcohol," said Maritime Beer Company brewmaster Bill Jamieson. Sleeman said it is planning an upcoming advertising campaign in Nova Scotia to support Old Milwaukee but would not disclose additional details. A number of promotions within Nova Scotia Liquor Commission retail outlets are also planned. Advertising for Old Milwaukee is done by Holmes & Lee of Toronto.
