MUCHMUSIC AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD B.Y.O.C.

MuchMusic, in partnership with the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada, is addressing the issue of teen pregnancy through a new 30-second public service announcement called "B.Y.O.C." or "Bring Your Own Condom." The PSA was created in-house by MuchMusic after the station consulted with Planned Parenthood. According to Sarah Crawford, vice-president of social policy and media education for Chum Television, MuchMusic's parent company, the issue of teen pregnancy was one that was really relevant to MuchMusic's audience. "We set out to create a PSA that is unconventional in tone and mood," she said. "B.Y.O.C." began a national three-week run Friday. It will continue to run periodically throughout the year. Viewers can also click on the Planned Parenthood icon on MuchMusic.com to be connected to an information page that features the top ten questions Planned Parenthood receives from young people on the topic of teen pregnancy.
