ON-CAMPUS ADVERTISING GETS A PASSING GRADE

A recent study to gage student's attitudes towards on-campus advertising has receive a passing grade. The study, commissioned jointly by NewAd Media of Toronto and Zoom Media of Montreal, polled 872 students across Canada attending a college or university with on-campus advertising. NewAd offers miniboard advertising in washrooms, backlitboards and videoboard advertising throughout its network of college and university campuses. Zoom targets the 18-34 year-old market with billboards through its student network. Results of the study, conducted by Leger Marketing of Montreal, indicate 79% are in favor of on-campus advertising when a part of the revenue is redistributed to students. Twelve per cent were indifferent and 9% of students were against it. Students were surveyed on the idea of on-campus advertising and not on their impression's of the advertising's content. Stephanie Emond, marketing director with NewAd Media, said the company was very happy with the results, adding the study shows many students are receptive to on-campus advertising. Emond said this is the first time the two media companies have partnered in such a study.
