TRIDENT CHEW CHEWS NEW CAPPUCCINO GUM, HALLS GOES GOLFING

Toronto-based Adams Canada is introducing its Trident Cappuccino flavor chewing gum to consumers with a new television commercial from J. Walter Thompson. The "Jackhammer" spot depicts a construction worker attempting to drink a cappuccino while operating a jackhammer. A voiceover says "If you love the great taste of cappuccino, now you can enjoy it conveniently, in a gum." The spot began running last week. "We think of its as a public service message," said Tim Das, copywriter and co-creator of the spot. "If you chew Trident Cappuccino, there's no danger of scalding yourself with hot gourmet liquid."
In other Adams Canada news, the Warner Lambert division has debuted a new spot for its Halls brand of cough drops. "Golfing" is intended to demonstrate that Halls can provide immediate relief for throat irritation. Using the new tagline "Free Your Throat," the spot depicts a golfer who cannot yell "fore" due to a sore throat. After hitting numerous other golfers with stray balls, the golfer takes a Halls, allowing him to yell the warning. The spot is launching in conjunction with Adams Canada's rollout of two new flavors and a redesigned package that indicates the intensity of each flavor: original, extra strong or mild. Halls will continue its "Free Your Throat" advertising in the new year with a heavy mass media push across Canada. Advertising for Halls is done by J. Walter Thompson of Toronto.
