ELLE CANADA TO FIND PLACE ON SPRING MAGAZINE RACKS

Montreal-based Transcontinental Publications Inc. and New York-based Hachette Filipacchi Magazines will launch Elle Canada in the spring of 2001. The Canadian version of the fashion magazine comes in the wake of Transcontinental's acquisition of Telemedia Publishing in March of last year. Telemedia publishes Elle Quebec. The magazine will focus on fashion and beauty. Reporting will cover social issues, arts, entertainment and politics, plus features on decor, food and travel. Andre Prefontaine, president of Transcontinental, expects Elle's high awareness level with advertisers and magazine readers will allow the publication to bypass the traditional brand building period of two years for a new title in Canada. Currently there are 32 international editions of the magazine including Elle France, Elle Germany, Elle India, Elle Japan, Elle Korea and Elle Spain. Lise Ravary, editor of Elle Quebec, and Francine Tremblay, vice president of women's magazines for Transcontinental, will serve as editorial director and publisher respectively for Elle Canada.
