BORDERFREE.COM LETS CANADIANS SHOP U.S. WEB SITES
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Borderfree.com is giving Canadian online consumers the ability to purchase products from U.S. Web sites without any hassles. The site, which launched yesterday, is designed to remove obstacles such as hidden costs, billing in foreign currency and problems with delivery and returns for Canadians trying to make a purchase from a U.S. Web site. To use Borderfree.com, Canadian online shoppers download a small piece of software that is the Borderfree.com universal shopping basket. When making a purchase, the shopper adds the item to the Borderfree.com basket rather than to the U.S. retailer's basket. The shopper can then enter a quote request for the purchases. When the quote is ready, including all duties, tariffs and shipping and handling charges, an email is sent with a link to the customer's account page at Borderfree.com. Customers can choose a shipping option, a method of payment and confirm the purchase order. In addition to handling the purchase on behalf of the shopper, Borderfree.com will handle any returns. The launch of the new service is being supported with print ads in The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star. Advertising, being handled by Taxi Advertising & Design of Toronto, will run until mid-September when the campaign is scheduled to roll out nationally. Public relations for Borderfree.com is being handled by Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto. Media buying is handled by Media Buying Services also of Toronto.
