TORCHIA COMMUNICATIONS OPENS FOR BUSINESS

Montreal-based Torchia Communications is the newest shop on the PR block. The agency, which opened its doors July 1, specializes in marketing public relations, promotions, special event management and sports, arts and entertainment sponsorships. Torchia was founded and is being headed by Armand Torchia, chairman and CEO, and his son Jean-Claude, president and COO. In launching the agency, Armand Torchia departs from Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, which merged with his previous agency, The Houston Group, in 1990. Jean-Claude Torchia spent the last three years in London, England, managing the global public relations program of British American Racing on the F-1 world circuit. Torchia counts Teleglobe Inc., Imperial Tobacco Canada Limitée, Brown & Wiliamson Tobacco Corporation and Du Maurier Ltée. among its clients. The agency is also in the process of finalizing an affiliation with a U.S.-based international PR network.
