HUDSON'S BAY ADDS TRIO OF EATON'S LOCATIONS TO PORTFOLIO

Hudson's Bay Company has announced the addition of three more former Eaton's locations to its real estate portfolio. The three new locations brings the total number of former Eaton's stores acquired by the Toronto-based retailer to 16. According to Hudson's Bay, which operates under its Bay and Zellers banners, the acquisitions are part of a strategic plan to acquire the best retail locations at the best price. Two of the three newly acquired locations are in the cities of Bramalea and Orleans in Ontario and the third is in Red Deer, Alberta. The Orleans location will see the current Bay store in Place d'Orleans relocate into the former Eaton's location, converting to the Bay's new prototype format. That location is scheduled to be opened by October 1, 2000. The Red Deer location will see the current Zellers store in Bower Place mall relocate into a portion of the former Eaton's store, opening by September 16, 2000. Plans for the former Eaton's Bramalea location include the opening of a new Zellers store by mid-August. All 16 former Eaton's locations acquired by Hudson's Bay are expected to be open by the fall. To date, Hudson's Bay operates 101 Bay stores and 328 Zellers stores across Canada.
