PR COMPETITION WINNERS

The people in the information division of STCUM, the Montreal transit system, won two prizes in the 1995 Prix Equinoxe competition for public relations in Quebec. The communications team led by Odile Paradis took the internal and external campaign categories. The winning external effort was a telephone hot-line set up to inform employees about what the company is doing, and to allow workers to make comments. The external push had bus drivers visiting senior citizens to find out what they wanted in the way of transit service. Hélèn Laplante and her group at the environmental consulting firm Cogesulte Inc. took the honors in the integrated campaign category. The client was QUIT-Fer et Titane, a former industrial polluter that wanted people to know it had cleaned up its act.

The special events prize was taken by director of information Irène Langis and her team at the Confédération québecoise des centres d'hébergement et de réadaption, for the way they organized Rond-point 95, a convention dealing with drug abuse attended by more than 600 people. In the category of communication program emphasizing quality, the people led by Joanne Paquet at Enigma Communications won with a job they did for Alcatel Cables Canada. This program was aimed at employees to help the company obtain an ISO 9001 rating for its quality of operations. This year saw the first presentation of the prize, given in conjunction with le Movement québecoises de la qualité. In the sponsorship category the winner was Daniel Giguére, communications and PR chief at Hydro-Quebec in the Saguenay region, for the celebration of the100th anniversary of electrical service in Chicoutimi.
