SASKATCHEWAN RESTAURANT OWNERS NOT DIGESTING NEW FOOD TAX

Restaurant owners throughout the province of Saskatchewan are opposing a 5% food tax recommendation by the Personal Income Tax Review Committee by launching a new advertising campaign. The ad effort, which broke yesterday, was initiated by members of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association. Full-page ads that ran in the Regina Leader Post and Saskatoon Star Phoenix featured a young girl holding a small carton of milk and a hot dog under the headline "Please don't tax my lunch." The ads are being supported with posters featuring the same message going up in restaurants across the province. Restaurant owners are meeting to discuss how a food tax will hurt their businesses and thousands of consumers have signed a petition protesting the proposed tax.
