RANSCOMBE & CO. WATCHING SONY'S FLAT SCREEN TV
By Adnews Staff
Ranscombe & Co. recently gave Sony of Canada of Toronto a hand in changing a flat. The Toronto-based advertising agency created a new print ad scheduled to make its debut this month just in time for the holiday season for Sony's flat screen Wega Television. The full-page ad will run in business and general consumer magazines targeting males, 25-45 years. The headline "We removed the unsightly lump," appears over a picture of surgeons working in an operating room to create the Wega flat screen from a standard television. The tagline reads "Flat out better." Ranscombe & Co. worked with Sony on the Wega flat screen television last fall when the agency created the product launch campaign. Ranscombe, which handles advertising for Sony's consumer AV/IT division, may possibly extend its relationship with Sony of Canada following the company's announcement it is considering consolidating its Consumer AV/IT division brand advertising with the Sony store brand advertising assignment. Sony recently ended its two and a half year relationship with Roche Macaulay & Partners which handled the Sony store but revealed no further details regarding agency requirements or the brand advertising assignments. Sony of Canada's agency roster also includes: Due North which handles media planning and buying for The Sony store, Lowe RMP Direct which handles the Sony store's direct marketing assignment and Cohn & Wolfe which handles public relations for Sony's consumer electronics division.
