GREG MACNEIL FIRST AD CLUB AWARD WINNER
By Adnews Staff
He's not out to pasture yet, and that's one of the reasons Greg MacNeil is the first winner of The Advertising Club of Toronto's first Magazine Award of Merit. MacNeil resigned this month from his posts as group vice-president and Canadian Living publisher at Telemedia Inc. He says he is seeking out new publishing opportunities, and the Ad Club obviously expects he will not be resting on his laurels after 25 years in the magazine industry. The Magazine Award was instituted this year to to recognize "individuals in the magazine industry who for many years have made significant contributions to the growth of the industry and will continue to do so in years to come," said Ad Club past president Bob White in making the presentation to MacNeil this month. "This is not a retirement award; rather it is given for on-going excellence in the Canadian magazine industry." MacNeil has been active with Magazines Canada and the Print Measurement Bureau. He started his career in 1970 with Maclean Hunter, and in 1978 was one of the founding partners of The Procom Group, which included Homemaker's magazine among its holdings. He went over to Telemedia Inc. in 1986 when Telemedia bought his company, and since then has led the growth of a stable of magazines that includes Homemaker's, Canadian Living and Harrowsmith.
