NCR LETS CUSTOMERS SMELL IT AND GROCERY STORES SELL IT

Toronto-based NCR Canada Ltd. and German-based Aerome have introduced a new Web-based kiosk with specialized scent technology that has given grocery stores a new way of promoting what's on sale. The new kiosk was unveiled at Toronto's Grocery Showcase Canada '99 earlier this week. The user-friendly, touch-screen menus lead consumers through various programs. As consumers touch the screen, the Web kiosk triggers the scent generator for products featuring a scent component. The kiosks can be mounted on a pole, countertop, wall or as a stand-alone unit. Scents that were being demonstrated at the Grocery Showcase included: perfume, orange juice, ice cream and pop. Pricing for the new NCR Web kiosk with six scents is estimated to start at $12,000 CDN.
