NADBANK 1999 STUDY RELEASED

The results of the 1999 NADBank Study has sent advertisers and media buyers into boardrooms analyzing results. The annual study is conducted by Newspaper Audience Databank Inc. on more than 60 daily newspapers in 40 urban markets. This year's study is the first to contain readership data for the National Post which hit newstands one year ago. According to the National Post, results of the 1999 study show the newspaper has been received with a warm welcome from the Canadian newspaper reading public, securing a "strong foothold in key markets across the country." Results show more than 810,400 Canadians read Canada's new newspaper each weekday. The Globe and Mail has reported its leadership position with 990,000 national readers. However, the NADBank's Toronto market data shows overall daily readership of newspapers in the city is down 4 per cent for 1999. This figure is with four daily newspapers compared to the year before when only three were found on newstands.
