WAL-MART CANADA'S FAMILY EXPANDS WITH NATIONAL ADOPTION PROGRAM
By Adnews Staff
Wal-Mart Canada of Mississauga, Ontario has just adopted 163 Canadian schools under its Wal-Mart Canada Adopt a School Program. The retailer announced the new program will sponsor elementary and secondary schools across the country. Almost every one of Wal-Mart's 163 stores nationwide has chosen a local school in its community which it will adopt for a one year period. Each individual store will provide a range of support for the entire year from donations and in-store fundraising events to volunteerism related to special school projects. Any money raised for schools by individual Wal-Mart stores will be matched by Wal-Mart Canada's head office to a set amount. Following the one year period, the store can renew its adoption or choose a new school. Initiatives under the program have already begun including a fundraising campaign in Owen Sound, Ontario to raise funds for an elementary school computer lab and in Thunder Bay, Ontario a store manager shaved his head to raise money for a local school.
