CORBY DISTILLERIES PROMOTING CANADIAN CLUB IN NEW T.V. SPOTS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Corby Distilleries is launching a new television advertising campaign featuring its Canadian Club rye whisky brand marking the company's first Canadian initiative campaign. The campaign includes ten 30- and 60-second spots that will hit the airwaves mid-October. One spot takes place in a crowded night club in Moscow. Two couples speaking in Russian approach the bar and order a round of Canadian Club. As the couples stare at the drink being poured, they comment in Russian-accented English, "Remember, we beat the Russians in '72." The night club goes silent and several Russian hockey players are seen approaching the couples. The voice over then announces, "It's a Canadian thing. In 151 countries. Canadian Club." The campaign is scheduled to run on and off again throughout the 1999/2000 hockey season. Advertising for Corby Distilleries is done by Goodgoll Curtis of Toronto.
