RAIL SAFETY PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENTS ROLL BY
By Adnews Staff
Operation Lifesaver and Direction 2006 have produced three public service announcements designed to deal with trespassing on railway property and highway-railway crossing collisions. The announcements are 30-seconds each and are available in both French and English. Operation Lifesaver is sponsored by the Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada. It works in co-operation with the Canadian Safety Council and provincial safety councils, leagues, police, union and community groups. Founded in 1981, the program works to heighten public awareness about rail/highway grade crossings. Direction 2006 is a partnership between levels of government, railway and public safety organizations. The organization is an initiative created to reduce grade crossing collisions and trespassing incidents by 50 per cent by the year 2006.
