HALLMARK SALUTES QUEBEC, LOOKS TO MARK THE MILLENNIUM

Hallmark Canada of Willowdale, Ontario has captured the "belle" in la belle province by paying tribute to the province of Quebec with a new line of greeting cards called Hommage au Quebec. The cards were designed exclusively for the Quebec market and feature paintings from Hallmark artist Sam Paonessa. Nicole Morency, manager of French Language Services, Hallmark Canada said Hallmark wanted to celebrate the unique cultural aspect of Quebec through a series of scenes designed to illustrate the essence of Quebec. The new line of 30 cards will be promoted using in-store materials at Hallmark locations across the province created in-house. To complement the line, Hallmark will be launching a Year 2000 Hommage au Quebec calendar later this year.

In other Hallmark news, the greeting card manufacturer is launching a promotional contest to "Hallmark the Millennium". Hallmark Canada is inviting Canadians to create the card of the century through a design contest running from now until July 31. To promote the contest, television commercials and print advertisements will be used throughout the year. Participants of any age can develop an original design and/or verse to appear as the star of the company's "Hallmark the Millennium" collection. The winning entry will have a limited edition run in both French and English and will represent the largest run of a single card in the history for Hallmark. The "Hallmark the Millennium" card will be available as of November 1. PR for Hallmark Canada is handled by Strategic Objectives of Toronto. Advertising for "Hallmark the Millennium" was done by Capital C of Toronto.
