MAXI AND MAXI & CO. CLOSING UP SHOP IN ONTARIO
By Adnews Staff
Provigo Inc. of Montreal has announced that the company will be withdrawing its Maxi and Maxi & Co. supermarket banners from the Ontario market. The chains operate 84 stores under the two banners, 7 of which operate in Ontario. Provigo's administrative offices and distribution centres, located in Scarborough and Sudbury, Ontario, will also be closing. Provigo Inc. is part of Loblaw Companies Ltd. The closures are a result of Provigo's sale of 41 Loeb supermarkets and other assets to Montreal-based Metro-Richelieu, a grocery store chain operating in Quebec. Loeb is another banner chain of supermarkets operated by Provigo.
