ROGERS INTRODUCING DIGITAL CHANNELS

Toronto-based Rogers Cablesystems Ltd. has unveiled the new programming services its will carry as part of its digital package called Rogers Digital Choice TV. The new channels, available this summer, will introduce television programming in a digital format in addition to the analogue format available now. Digital format provides enhanced picture and sound quality. In Toronto, Rogers will be adding the Asian Television Network, offering South Asian television programming, Deutsche Welle, offering programming from Germany, and Odyssey, offering programming from Greece. In the Vancouver markets, in addition to the Asian Television Network, Deutsche Welle and Odyssey, Rogers will be introducing Telelatino, featuring Italian and Spanish entertainment, and TV Japan, offering programs from Japanese broadcaster NHK. In the Ottawa area, the Asian Television Network, Deutsche Welle, Odyssey and Telelatino will be offered along with MuchMoreMusic, airing music programming 24-hours a day, and Fairchild, which will offer daily news in Cantonese and Mandarin. In the Southwestern Ontario area, Rogers customers will be offered the Asian Television Network, Deutsche Welle, Odyssey and Fairchild channels. Other channels will be announced prior to the launch of Rogers Digital Choice TV. Rogers Movie Network, Moviepix/Moviemax and the U.S. superstations will also be part of the digital channels being offered by Rogers. To receive these channels from Rogers, customers will need a digitial descrambler box, available to rent from Rogers. Advertising for the new digital stations will be done but plans have not been confirmed. Advertising for Rogers Digital is done by Enterprise Advertising of Toronto.
