Toronto-based public relations firm BenchMark Communications has announced a peck of promotions. Helen Ryder, Alison Philips and Eileen Foley have been promoted from their previous positions of consultants to those of senior consultants. Lizanne McReelis has been promoted from the position of communications coordinator to the position of consultant.

Gee, Jeffery has announced numerous additions to the company's creative department as well as an appointment. Karena Phidd is promoted from group media director to vice-president of media for the agency. Rick Pregent joins the agency as senior writer. Previously Pregent was at Leo Burnett where he held the same position. Greg Gray joins Gee, Jeffery as a writer. Previously Gray was a freelancer. Simon Duffy joins the agency as art director. Most recently Duffy was at Gold, Greenlees, Trott in Manchester, England where he held the same position. Krishna Bhowmik also joins the agency as art director. Bhowmik was previously an art director at The Crichton Kim-Kirkland Company. Shelly Dwyer joins as writer. Dwyer was previously working as a writer at Bensimon Byrne DMB&B.

As part of a general reorganization of its operations, Compaq Canada Inc. of Richmond Hill, Ontario, has promoted Ralph Hyatt to the position of vice-president of marketing. He will be responsible for all marketing functions including advertising, communications, channel marketing and government and public relations. His previous position was vice-president of consumer sales and marketing, a position he will continue to hold until a replacement can be named.

On May 1, TBWA Chiat/Day of Toronto honored long-time employee Dianne Knapik. Knapik joined the agency a decade ago as print traffic supervisor. Over the years she has been promoted to positions in both the production and account services department. Her responsibilities within the studio and creative department have recently been expanded to project director. "In an industry known for change, having Dianne with us for ten years is extremely gratifying," said TBWA Chiat/Day general manager Andrew Bruce. In honor of Knapik's ten years of service, she was presented with a collection of photographs taken over the last ten years and a cheque to take a trip. Colleagues also had a message for Knapik, "Go away. Then come right back!".
