IBM POSTS ITSELF ON PRIVACY POLICIES
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. is putting its online ad budget behind privacy policies on the Internet. In a move to back up its image as a supporter of Internet privacy, the corporation is announcing it will only advertise on websites that post a clear privacy policy statement. It plans on implementing its new policy on June 1 in the U.S. and Canada. IBM's view is that consumers visiting a website should be told clearly what information is being collected and how it will be used as well as have a choice to elect not to provide any information. IBM buys extensive advertising on websites in North America. Advertising for IBM Canada is done by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. PR is handled by Goodman Communications of Toronto.
