IMPERIAL OIL TAKE PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE SNOW

Imperial Oil of Toronto is giving away six dream vacations in its latest promotion that began earlier this month. Under the deal, customers at Imperial's Esso gas stations can enter a draw to win a trip to any one of six Caribbean destinations: Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Thomas or Turks & Caicos. For each trip, a winner and five friends or family, fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico, then board a private jet to reach the luxury accommodations on the island of their choice. The prize includes three meals a day, a private excursion by land and sea and $1,500 spending money. Customers enter the contest by swiping their Esso Extra card or by making a payment on the Esso credit card. National English and French TV commercials will promote the contest, as well as direct mail and point-of-sale signs. The English campaign was created by Goodgoll Curtis of Toronto, while the French-language campaign was created by Communications bleu blanc rouge of Montreal. PR is being done by Marshall Fenn Communications of Toronto. The French TV spot features the continuing saga of characters Sylvain and Isabelle whose love life began in an Esso radio campaign during the summer of 1997. This is the first time the couple will appear on TV. They are depicted as contest winners who are inundated with requests from friends who want to come along on their trip. The commercials will also feature the Esso animated tiger, who makes an appearance by pulling the Esso Extra card in a swipe across the screen as an animated tag.
