B.C. CONSUMERS STILL CONFIDENT IN RRSPS
By Adnews Staff
Although B.C.'s economy has slowed down, consumers still plan on investing in RRSPs, according to a survey done by the Angus Reid Group. In the survey of 1,700 British Columbians, 61% plans to contribute to an RRSP for the 1998 tax year. This is up from the 46% who made a contribution in 1997. About half of the respondents plan to contribute more, or the same amount for 1998. Of those that plan to contribute, 24% will invest more than they did last year, while 26% will contribute the same amount. Thirty-eight per cent said they did not plan on making a contribution this year or didn't know if they would. Fifty-three per cent of the respondents said they plan to invest in mutual funds for their 1998 RRSP, while 8% plan to invest in stocks for their RRSP. The survey was commissioned by Credit Union Central of British Columbia.
