NINTENDO BRINGS STAR WARS TO VIDEO SCREEN

Vancouver-based Nintendo of Canada released a new game this week for its 64-bit game console, Nintendo 64. Called Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, the game allows users to wear the flight suit of Luke Skywalker to fight the Galactic Empire. Along with Luke's 12 pilots, users can choose from five different starfighters: X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, V-wing and snowspeeder, each with different weapons such as ion cannons, lasers and seeker missiles. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron features a variety of missions including dogfights, search-and-destroy, reconnaissance, escort duty and rescue, all through first and third person perspectives. Aerial combats take place in numerous 3-D planetary settings including those from the Star Wars environment and never-before-seen worlds. The game also offers a 360-degree roaming feature for both cockpit and exterior points of view. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron will be promoted using national TV and magazine ads targeted at teenagers. The campaign was created by Leo Burnett Co. of Toronto. The GCI Group of Toronto is handling PR. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron became available on U.S. store shelves this week as well.
