DIGITAL HAS NEW COMPUTERS

Digital Equipment Corp. of Maynard, Massachusetts is putting out what it calls "personal workstations" on the North American market at the end of October. Both machines work with Microsoft's Windows NT operating system which is designed for local area networks. One of Digital's new machines is closer to being a personal computer. Called the Celebris XL, it will be promoted with print advertising starting late next month. Young & Rubicam Advertising in New York is creating the advertising which will be placed in Canada by the agency's Toronto office. The new Alpha XL is the more workstation-type model. Workstations are super-powerful desktop computers used for intense number crunching or other heavy-duty jobs. They are used in areas such as engineering and scientific research. In Canada, print advertising for the Alpha XL began this week. DDB Needham Worldwide in New York created the campaign and its Toronto office did the media buy. Both machines are manufactured at Digital's plant in Kanata, Ont. for North and South American distribution.
