CANADA TRUST OFFERS BIODEGRADABLE CREDIT CARD
By Adnews Staff
Canada Trust of Toronto has developed an environmentally friendly credit card. Called the Friends of the Environment regular and gold MasterCard cards, the cards are biodegradable, being made of a plant-based substance called Biopol. Unlike PVC cards, the Biopol card will break down in the presence of soil, moisture or salt water in a few months. If customers apply for the cards during the month of December, they will receive an introductory interest rate of 7.9%. In addition, Canada Trust will donate a percentage of the total annual amount that customers spend on the cards to the Friends of the Environment Foundation. The Friends of the Environment Foundation was established by Canada Trust in 1990 to provide funding support for initiatives that protect and preserve the Canadian environment. The new cards will be promoted using in-branch materials created by McDonnell Haynes of Toronto.
