WAL-MART TO OPEN VISION CARE OUTLETS

Wal-Mart Canada of Mississauga, Ont. plans to open optical centres in 70 outlets across Canada by the end of 1999. The first 15 outlets opened last week in Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. Called Wal-Mart Vision Centres, the stores will offer an assortment of brand name eye wear and contact lenses, as well as on-site eye exams. Wal-Mart will promote the vision centres using newspaper ads, as well as in-store flyers and signage. The campaign will be created in-house. Wal-Mart operates 151 stores across Canada. The national retailer's other specialty services include Wal-Mart Pharmacies, Tire Lube Express Auto Centres, One-Hour Photo Labs, McDonald's Restaurants, Portrait Studios, Magicuts Hair Salons, Marlin Travels and full-service Toronto Dominion Bank branches. In the U.S., Wal-Mart has been operating vision centres for eight years.
