SONY TOUTS TV AND MINI-PHONES
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Ranscombe & Co. has had a busy fall launching two campaigns for Sony of Canada. The agency has launched a campaign for Sony's new Wega FD Trinitron flat screen Wega television. The campaign uses national newspaper and magazine ads, as well as an outdoor billboard in downtown Toronto. One of the ads shows a basketball court curved like a conventional television screen. The players are trying to keep from falling off the edges of the court. The headline says, "Curves Distort." The tagline is, "The World Is Flat."
The second campaign promotes Sony's new Zuma cellular phone using newspaper ads. In the campaign, the phone is hidden behind different objects such as a deck of cards, a coffee cup, in a shirt pocket and behind a sandwich, to show consumers how small the phone is. The Zuma weighs 5.3 ounces and is smaller than the palm of a hand. It features a choice of five ring types or a vibration alert, a large alphanumeric LCD screen for text messaging and a multilingual display option. In addition, it has 2.5 hours of talk time and 24-hour standby.
