U.S.-based International Business Machines unleashed its first DVD-ROM title this week in the North American market. Called World Book Discoveries, the reference guide is geared to families and offers information on the history of the arts, physical and natural sciences, religion, politics and technology. There are chapters on a number of historic eras including Prehistory, First Civilizations, The Classical World, The Age of Faith, The Middle Ages, The Renaissance, The Age of Reason, The Age of Revolution, The World at War, The Nuclear Age and Toward the Millennium. Discoveries features 5,400 pictures, seven hours of audio and more than 900 animations. In Canada, individual retailers will be responsible for promoting Discoveries. IBM Canada may launch some ads for the product, but nothing has been confirmed. Canadian advertising for the computer maker is handled by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
