INTERNET AD REVENUES RISING
By Adnews Staff
Internet advertising is on the rise in Canada, according to a semi-annual study done by Ernst & Young of Toronto. Revenues in the first half of the year rose to $8 million, while revenue for the entire year is expected to reach $20.7 million. Revenue in 1999 is estimated to jump 82% to $37.7 million. In 1998, ad agencies were the source of $12 million of Canadian Internet advertising revenues, 58% of total advertising revenues, compared to 44% in 1997. Banner ads are the most popular advertising vehicle on the Internet. The findings of the study came from a survey of the 73 Web sites believed to generate the majority of Internet advertising revenue in Canada. The survey was commissioned by the Internet Advertising Bureau of Canada.
