ROGERS REVAMPS PAY AS YOU GO SERVICE
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Rogers Cantel has expanded its Pay-As-You-Go cellular service to include anyone with a mobile phone, including those using any other service provider. The Pay As You Go service uses a calling card that offers 60 minutes of calling. As the customer uses the phone, the number of minutes are deducted from the card. When all the minutes on the card are used, the customer purchases another card. In order to use the service, customers need a phone that is able to access the A-band. Customers then dial the star and pound keys on their dial pad, then the number they are calling. A recording will prompt them to enter the 14-digit Pay As You Go number that appears on the back of the calling card. After the customer enters the number, the system will confirm how many minutes are left in the account and the call will be connected. To promote the enhanced service, Rogers is using a newspaper insert that tells consumers how to use the service and includes a 10-minute calling card. Newspaper ads will also be used. Advertising for Rogers is handled by Gee, Jeffery & Partners Advertising of Toronto. Quebec advertising is created by Groupaction Marketing of Montreal.
