CHINESE CHANNEL BANS LIQUOR ADS DURING PRIME TIME

China Central Television is no longer accepting liquor ads during its prime time advertising slot in its evening news broadcast. The prime time slot are the periods before and after the daily half hour news broadcast at 7 p.m., which is the channel's most popular program. CCTV is the country's only national TV station. In recent years, liquor producers have paid up to $40 million(US) to advertise its wares during the prime time slot. CCTV has also announced that it will arrange 12 non-prime time commercial time periods for liquor producers in 1999.
